Barcaldine and District Historical Museum
Back
The Museum is located in the historical National Bank Building which was relocated to its current location on the corner of Gidyea and Beech Streets.
It houses an extensive collection of artefacts which epitomise the pioneering history of Barcaldine and surrounding districts.
Interesting fact: Barcaldine was the first place in which the military placed Emu feathers in their Slouch Hats. During the great Shearers' Strike of 1891, the emu feathers in a slouch hat, was devised to distinguish striking members from non-strikers. The soldiers, sent to restore order, adopted the emblem and thus a famous Australian tradition was established.
