It houses an extensive collection of artefacts which epitomise the pioneering history of Barcaldine and surrounding districts.
Interesting fact: Barcaldine was the first place in which the military placed Emu feathers in their Slouch Hats. During the great Shearers' Strike of 1891, the emu feathers in a slouch hat, was devised to distinguish striking members from non-strikers. The soldiers, sent to restore order, adopted the emblem and thus a famous Australian tradition was established.
